Frequently Asked Questions
How are Women Build homes different than other Habitat for Humanity homes? Can't women participate in the construction of all Habitat for Humanity homes?Women are always free to participate in Habitat Home construction, but often they do not have the experience or confidence to take on tasks that go beyond painting, cleaning, and landscaping. In a Women Build environment, however, women working side by side teach new skills to each other in a relaxed, fun, cooperative atmosphere. Women Build meshes with the overall goals of Habitat for Humanity by encouraging women to learn construction skills that will empower them to contribute fully in the fight against substandard housing. As with all Habitat for Humanity houses, specialized construction projects such as electrical and plumbing work are done by licensed professionals.

Does Habitat for Humanity maintain the homes after they are built?
No. Habitat houses are built with the invested "sweat equity" of its future owner. The owner works alongside volunteers every step of the way in the building process and, when the house is complete, he/she is fully in charge of maintaining the home.
Are men excluded from helping with Women Build projects?
Absolutely not! Men may help in all aspects of design, fundraising, public relations, and all other non-construction types of labor. They can also be involved on the home front by being supportive of the women in their lives--wives, mothers, daughters--who are involved in Women Build.
